Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has urged the State government to provide a compensation of ₹1 crore to each family of the Telangana movement martyrs.
Before launching her Janam Bata (Path of the People) Yatra, which will cover all 119 Assembly constituencies** across 33 districts, Kavitha paid floral tributes at the **Amaraveerula Stupam (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Gun Park, Hyderabad, on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, Kavitha apologised to the families of the Telangana martyrs, admitting that the previous government failed to deliver full justice to them.
Around 1,200 brave individuals sacrificed their lives for the formation of Telangana, but only 580 families have received justice so far. The dreams and ideals they fought for remain unfulfilled,she said.
Kavitha emphasized that every family of a Telangana martyr deserves ₹1 crore in compensation**, calling it a matter of honour and justice. Reflecting on her time as a Member of Parliament and MLC, the Jagruthi leader expressed regret for not being able to secure adequate support during the BRS government’s tenure.
Although I was not a minister, I raised the issue several times in internal party meetings. I now feel I could have pursued it more strongly,” she admitted. Kavitha reiterated her commitment to fight until **each martyr’s family** receives “₹1 crore compensation” urging the current government to take mmediate action. We owe it to those who sacrificed their lives for the dignity and prosperity of Telangana, she concluded.(PMI)
