Hyderabad, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today accused the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre of trying to dilute SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act leading to large scale attacks on Dalits in the country.
Paying floral tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on 111th birth anniversary near LB Stadium here, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed concern that the courts, which are ought to implement the Act were trying to dilute them by removing its teeth. He also lashed out at the Centre for unabated attacks on Dalits across the country and attributed the recent killing of thirteen Dalits during nationwide protests to the suppressing tactics of the BJP Government.
The Centre, if has any affection for Dalits should take immediate measures to withdraw the cases and ensure that the SC, ST Atrocities Act was implemented to protect the rights of the Dalits, he said. “Our Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has condemned the incident and demanded that the Centre take strong steps against the attacks on the Dalits”, he said and accused the Union government of hatching a conspiracy against the Dalits, who are now getting into mainstream with some awareness.
While Dr Ambedkar mentioned in the Constitution about welfare of Dalits, the Courts and the Centre were trying to dilute the provisions of the SC, ST Atrocities Act only to suppress them further, he charged. Seeking to know who will shoulder responsibility for the recent killing of Dalits, Srihari urged the Centre to take immediate steps to implement the Act and protect the interests of SC and STs.
