New Delhi, October 31,(PMI) : The Government of India has appointed Justice Surya Kant as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). He will be the first Chief Justice from Haryana, marking a significant milestone in the history of the Indian judiciary.
Justice Kant will take oath on November 24, succeeding Chief Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, who demits office a day earlier. He will serve as the 53rd Chief Justice of India and hold office until February 9, 2027, with a tenure of nearly 14 months.
The appointment follows the recommendation made by outgoing CJI Gavai, with the official government notification issued two days later. Justice Kant currently serves as the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of India.(pressmediaofindia.com)
