JUH’s Maulana Madani calls for a global blasphemy law

Bihar;9 Dec’2024:Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani has called for a global law to ban showing disrespect to Prophet Muhammad in any manner. He appealed to the international community to make a law to protect the honour of the Prophet of Islam and declared its violation a crime.

He said this was necessary given the growing incidents of blasphemy across the world, especially on social media.

He was addressing an Ijlas-e-Aam (general meeting) in the Muslim-dominant Kishanganj city of Bihar on Sunday.

He chose the occasion to warn Bangladesh against the continuing attacks on Hindus. He said it was the responsibility of not only Bangladesh but all the countries of the world to protect and respect the minorities living in their respective countries.

Maulana Madani strongly condemned the ongoing incidents of violence and persecution of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. He said, “Justice is the key to the survival of a civilized society. If discrimination on the caste and religious basis continues in Bangladesh, it is the biggest betrayal.”

On the domestic situation, Maulana Madani expressed his concerns about the increasing attacks on mosques and madrasas. Condemning the targeting of mosques through communal campaigns, Maulana Madani appealed to the Supreme Court to form a constitutional bench for the protection of mosques under the Places of Worship (Special Protection) Act of 1991.

He also expressed concern over the ongoing negative propaganda against madrassas and asked the government for cooperation in the development of madrassas.

Madani alleged some ruling party members had made provocative statements in the “communal’ public rallies held in Seemanchal”. These, he said, are dangerous to national integrity and can weaken the social fabric of the country.

The meeting also passed a resolution Opposing the amendments in the Waqf Act, and demanded the protection of the rights of the Muslim community on Waqf properties.

The majlis appealed to all the stakeholders to promote the positive contribution of madrassas in India and not run propaganda against these Islamic institutions.

It also appealed to general people against spreading hatred on social media and asked the authorities to take strict action against the increasing incidents of hatred and blasphemy on social media.

Several prominent personalities including Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, Maulana Mufti Affan Mansoorpuri, Maulana Javed Iqbal, and Maulana Iftikhar Qasmi attended the meeting. The speakers stressed the importance of national unity and brotherhood in the society.

Maulana Madani appealed to the Muslims to maintain restraint and patience and said that “the challenges are big, but we have to find solutions within the ambit of the Constitution and law.”

Lakhs of people associated with Jamiat from different districts of Bihar and Bengal attended the Ijlas. This meeting was special in the sense that the representatives of all schools of thought and political parties attended it.

At the meeting, the Ulema expressed their anger over the violence in Sambhal and the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill.

They alleged that the government wanted to seize the property of Muslims by making changes in the Waqf law.”This will not be allowed,” they declared.

Some MPs and Bihar legislators from Congress and RJD participated in the meeting. They took turns to speak against the ruling BJP at the center.

Speaking on the occasion Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s national president Mahmood Asad Madani spoke on the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh.

He said that attacks on Hindus should be stopped. “If a Muslim misbehaves with a non-Muslim, it is a great injustice. This is against Islam, Islam does not teach this.”

Jamiat is a historical institution that has performed the duty of leading the nation in every era. Even today, the struggle of Jamiat Ulema Hind continues at various levels and in many areas. Jamiat has always tried to maintain communal harmony in the country.

Jamiat Ulama Kishanganj General Secretary Maulana Mohd Khalid Anwar said that this Ijlas was organized to discuss issues like maintaining communal harmony in the country, measures to protect the Wakf Board, and removing misunderstanding and apostasy about Islamic teachings.
