Jubilee Hills By-election: BRS Announces Candidate, Congress and BJP Still Finalizing Names

Hyderabad, Oct 7 (PMI): With the by-election schedule for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency officially announced, political activity is heating up in Telangana. While the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has moved swiftly by declaring its candidate, the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are still in the process of finalizing theirs.

The BRS has fielded Maganti Sunitha, the widow of late MLA Maganti Gopinath, in a bid to retain the seat. Gopinath’s passing necessitated the by-election, and the party appears to be banking on sympathy and continuity by nominating his spouse.

In contrast, both the Congress and BJP are still deliberating. Internal committees within both parties have been tasked with screening potential candidates and recommending suitable names.

A three-member ministerial panel appointed by the Congress has already submitted its report to the leadership. Senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Sports Minister V. Srihari, flew to New Delhi on Monday to discuss the matter with the party high command. However, as of late evening, no official announcement had been made.

TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud suggested that the Congress is inclined to field a candidate from the Backward Classes (BC) community. He stated that the final list will be discussed with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, after which the name will be forwarded to the party high command for approval. The Congress expects to announce its candidate within the next two to three days. Goud also expressed optimism about receiving support from the AIMIM, calling them a “friendly party.”

Meanwhile, the BJP has also constituted a three-member committee, which began its work on Sunday. A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, during which a shortlist of three potential candidates will be finalized and sent to the party’s central leadership. The BJP is expected to announce its official nominee by Wednesday.

As the BRS gears up with its campaign, the delay in announcements from the two national parties has created an air of suspense among party workers and voters alike in the Jubilee Hills constituency.(pressmediaofindia.com)
