Journalists Seek Welfare Measures, Accreditation Reforms at Secretariat Meeting

Hyderabad Jan 10 (Shoukat-PMI) Journalists’ welfare issues and the policy for issuing accreditation cards came up for discussion at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday (January 10, 2026). The meeting took place at the Ministers’ Meeting Chamber on the invitation of Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

The meeting was attended by Press Academy Chairman Srinivas Reddy, I&PR Commissioner Priyanka, CPRO, senior officials, and representatives of nearly 20 journalist unions from across the State.

Key discussions focused on the issuance of accreditation cards, provision of housing plots and houses/flats to journalists, and other long-pending welfare demands.

Speaking on behalf of the Telangana Journalists Association (TJA), its State President K.V. Ramanaa Rao urged the government to issue accreditation cards as per the old Government Order, without considering circulation as the main criterion.

He also placed several welfare demands before the government, including:

  • Creation of a separate Journalists Health Scheme, distinct from the Employees Journalists Health Scheme

  • Provision of free Metro travel passes for journalists

  • Free education in private schools for journalists’ children

  • Pensions for eligible senior journalists

  • Allotment of housing plots or houses/flats to journalists belonging to below poverty line categories

The meeting was attended by M.R. Ghori, State General Secretary, and K.V. Ramanaa Rao, State President, representing the Telangana Journalists Association.
