Hyderabad, Congress senior leader T Jeevan Reddy has demanded that the State government implement the Rs 4,000 per acre incentive scheme for farmers from this Rabi season. He also asked the government to extend the same to the tenant farmers also.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday at the Assembly media point, Jeevan Reddy said it was not proper to the State government to consider turmeric and Mirchi crops as single crop per year and demanded that the State government provide Rs 500 as bonus to red gram. He said the farmers, in general, cultivate maize as internal crop in turmeric and farmers remove turmeric after completion of maize crop work.
The Congress leader also said Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was talking without an understanding on the crops. The minister was simply reading the script prepared by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He demanded that the State government extend Rs 500 bonus instead of giving minimum support price to cereals. Not only the neighboring States, but also BJP-ruled States were giving bonus to the farmers, he said, adding that previous Congress government had given investment amount even to tenant farmers. He demanded that the government extend Rs 4,000 to all those cultivating the lands, irrespective of pattedar and tenant farmers.
