In Jammu & Kashmir, a CRPF jawan was martyred and a security man of J&K Police sustained grievous injuries in an ongoing gunfight with the holed up terrorists in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar city today.
The CRPF jawan succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the encounter which is underway since this morning. Two terrorists holed up engaged in the gunfight, are believed to be LeT cadres.
Security officials said, terrorists, apparently suicide attackers, carrying backpacks and armed with AK 47 rifles tried to approach the CRPF camp in the area.
Their apparent attempt to storm the camp was repulsed after an alert sentry at the Camp gate opened fire at around 0430 hrs, making them flee.
CRPF spokesman told AIR that after several hours of search operation, two terrorists were traced in a building situated in the periphery of the CRPF camp in Karan Nagar area. He said, an exchange of gunfire started between the two sides and the operation is in progress.
State Police Chief S P Vaid in a tweet has congratulated the guard who fired upon the approaching militants thereby averting Fidayeen attack on 23rd Bn of CRPF.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Jammu and Kashmir today to review the security situation in the state. The visit comes in the wake of terror attacks on army camps in the state and two days after Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists carried out attack on Sunjwan army camp in Jammu
