ISRO Chief V. Narayanan Hails The ‘Great Responsibility’ Given By PM Narendra Modi

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), January 8 : V Narayanan has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), a role he described as a “great responsibility” entrusted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reflecting on ISRO’s remarkable legacy since its inception in 1969, Narayanan paid tribute to the leaders who shaped its journey, including Vikram Sarabhai, U.R. Rao, K. Kasturirangan, K. Radhakrishnan, A.S. Kiran Kumar, K. Sivan, and S. Somnath.

Speaking to ANI, Narayanan expressed his commitment to furthering ISRO’s mission, saying, “This is a great responsibility bestowed by PM Narendra Modi. ISRO has made significant contributions across various fields since its inception in 1969, guided by visionary leaders. With the talent, technocrats, and management staff at ISRO, I am confident that we can contribute significantly to making India a developed nation, as envisioned by the Prime Minister, before we celebrate 100 years of independence.”

Narayanan shared his vision for ISRO’s future, highlighting key upcoming projects such as the SpaDex experiment, the G1 rocket, and the PSLV mission. “Tomorrow, we will launch the SpaDex experiment, which will be crucial for future missions like Chandrayaan-4 and the development of the space station. We are also working on the G1 rocket, India’s first unmanned rocket, and conducting an important experiment with PSLV. I will leverage my 41 years of experience to help ISRO reach even greater heights,” he added.

Narayanan, who is set to take office on January 14, will succeed S. Somanath as the ISRO Chairman. According to an official order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Narayanan’s tenure will last for the next two years, until further notice.

With nearly four decades of experience in rocket and spacecraft propulsion, Narayanan is a distinguished scientist. He joined ISRO in 1984 and has held various key positions, including Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). Early in his career, he worked in the Solid Propulsion area of Sounding Rockets, Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV), and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
