GAZA CITY: Al-Qassam Brigades says it is confronting Israeli forces as they try to advance deeper into Gaza City.
Dozens of Palestinians were killed in intense overnight Israeli bombardments in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north and Sabra in western Gaza.
Thousands of Palestinians walking long distances to flee the fighting and Israeli bombardment in northern Gaza.
Israeli PM Netanyahu has again rejected the prospect of a ceasefire without the release of captives as Israeli bombardment continues across the Gaza Strip.
At least 10,569 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the death toll over the same period stands at more than 1,400.
Eight hospitals bombed in three days
Eight hospitals have been bombed by Israeli forces in the past three days and 18 hospitals have been out of service since October 7, Gaza’s government media office has said.
Journalist Hani Mahmoud reported that last night Gaza’s largest hospital, Al Shifa Hospital sustained “a great deal of damage”, with major departments severed including the X-ray department as a result of Israeli air raids.
Gaza’s health ministry has posted a video showing the damage caused to the radiology department at Nasser Medical Hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, as a result of the Israeli bombardment on a nearby mosque on Thursday evening.
“The roof fell down on a colleague while he was heading from this room to that room to aid some patients. He is in the ER right now,” a hospital worker says in the video. “There is no safe place. In our field of work, there is no safe place.”
The interior ministry said Israeli attacks on Thursday damaged two mosques in Khan Younis, bringing the number of completely destroyed mosques since October 7 to 59 and partially destroyed ones to 136.
CIA Director William Burns has been travelling in the Middle East for the past several days.
He went first to Israel, then to Egypt and now to Qatar, a country that has played a key role in negotiating the release of captives held in Gaza.
The talks appear to centre on the idea of a three-day pause in attacks in return for the release of 10 to 15 captives. Analysts say the talks appear to be gaining momentum.
Burns spent much of his long career as a diplomat in the Middle East and is well known to the leaders in that region.
Meanwhile, Israel’s siege and attacks have created a water crisis for the people of Gaza, forcing them to form long queues and wait for hours for a chance at getting just a meagre supply.
“We can’t find water,” resident Mohammed Raqiba said. “The whole area is surviving on this water hose. Around 20,000 families drink from this water hose.” (Int’l News Desk)
