25-08-2024

GAZA CITY: During the past 48-hour reporting period, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed 69 Palestinians and wounded 212, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

A Hamas delegation, led by senior official Khalil al-Hayya, has arrived in Cairo amid continuing Gaza ceasefire talks. Reports say the group will be briefed on the current status of negotiations but is not expected to take part directly.

Israel’s military issues new orders for residents to evacuate neighborhoods in northern Gaza amid intense Israeli attacks in the north, centre and south of the Palestinian territory.

UN official says Palestinian children are “paying the heaviest price” as Gaza faces critical humanitarian aid shortages and spike in malnutrition.

At least 40,334 people have been killed and 93,356 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7.

General CQ Brown, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, is in Jordan to begin a Middle East trip aimed at deescalating regional tensions, reports media.

After his trip to Jordan, Brown will travel to Egypt and then Israel for talks with military leaders, media reported, in parallel with ongoing Gaza ceasefire negotiations.

Expressing hope that a Gaza ceasefire would help “bring down the temperature in the region, Brown told Reuters he would discuss with his counterparts “things we can do to deter any type of broader escalation”.

The explosive device planted in a cistern near the illegal settlement of Avnei Hefetz in the West Bank went off near soldiers earlier today, according to a statement by the military.

The army says the troops were scanning the area when the incident took place, adding that there were no injuries.

The Israeli forces in the area have been carrying out searches for suspects and possible additional bombs, it added.

A woman and a young girl are among those killed in Israel’s latest attack on the Bureij refugee camp, report our colleagues on the ground in Gaza.

Their bodies, along with other children wounded by the assault, have been rushed to al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp, they report.

Footage from the hospital, verified by an int’l fact-checking agency Sanad, shows several bloodied children receiving treatment, while a man weeps over the body of a deceased child.

The Lebanese group says it carried out a suicide drone strike on Israeli soldiers positioned near the village of Yaara, adding that it hit them “accurately”.

The group said on Telegram it targeted the “Maskafam” military site in northern Israel in a separate attack, again achieving a direct hit.

Hezbollah claimed several other attacks on targets in northern Israel earlier in the day, some of which were confirmed by the Israeli military.

Video posted on social media, and verified by a media’s fact-checking unit, shows two children in Gaza collecting spilled flour from the sandy ground.

The Palestinian journalist who captured the footage near Hamad City in the southern Gaza Strip, asks the boys if they plan to eat the flour, and they respond affirmatively.

Yesteday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported a spike in acute malnutrition among Palestinian children in Gaza in recent months. (Int’l News Desk)
