Jerusalem, March 21. Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Israel continues its airstrikes on Iranian targets, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been carefully choosing his words in public statements.
Analysts suggest that Israel is acting cautiously to maintain ongoing political and military support from the United States. A recent example of this restraint was seen when Netanyahu agreed to halt strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure following a clear request from Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Netanyahu said in Hebrew that the war would continue “as long as necessary.” However, he later added in English that he expects the conflict to end “much sooner than people think.”
Experts believe that if the White House decides to scale down its actions against Iran, Israel is highly likely to follow Washington’s lead. On the other hand, if Washington, D.C. is compelled to commit more resources to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open, Israel may gain additional time to continue its strikes on Iranian military targets.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Saturday that the intensity of airstrikes would increase, raising further concerns about escalating tensions in the region.
