Israel kills dozens in Gaza, continues to target Lebanon

07-12-2024

GAZA STRIP/ BEIRUT: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) warns that bitterly cold weather in Gaza is making conditions harder for forcibly displaced families “struggling to survive” in makeshift shelters without warm clothes or blankets.

As dozens are reported killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza, reporters on the ground says patients and staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital were “soaked in blood” after multiple Israeli strikes that are “deliberate and directed” at the besieged medical facility.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said five people were wounded in an Israeli attack near Bint Jbeil town as a ceasefire with Hezbollah holds despite numerous truce violations by Israeli forces.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 44,580 Palestinians and wounded 105,739 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 were taken captive.

In Lebanon, at least 4,047 people have been killed and 16,638 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.

The 16-year-old was wounded after Israel forces stormed the Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, and fired live ammunition, the Wafa news agency reports.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said the teenager was shot in the thigh and has been transferred to hospital. They did not state the severity of his condition.

Israeli forces have also stormed the following locations over recent hours;

The city of Qalqilya, the town of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, the town of Hizma, northeast of Jerusalem, the town of Beita, south of Nablus, the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, west of Salfit and the town of Deir al-Ghusun, near Tulkarem.

Clashes have also reportedly broken out between Palestinian fighters near Jenin.

At least two Palestinians have been killed after Israeli fighter jets bombed the Rafei School, a shelter for displaced Palestinians in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza, according to Gaza-based outlet Al-Aqsa TV.

The Israeli military has also shelled an area northwest of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza over recent hours, according to media.

In the south, Israeli fighter jets launched an air strike on the city of Rafah, media also reports.

Israel’s assault on Gaza continues, including an attack on a residential building in Beit Lahiya in the north, which has killed at least 15 Palestinians.

Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in its war on Gaza, in new findings based on witness statements, footage analysis, and statements by Israeli officials.

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has said Israel may have “an opportunity now” to secure a deal to free captives held in Gaza, as Hamas negotiators are reportedly set to return to Doha to facilitate a new round of talks.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said he believes Israel has a “great opportunity” to formally annex the occupied West Bank under the new Trump administration.

Israel’s repeated violations of a fragile US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon continue, including a strike on the village of Aitaroun in the south, which wounded five people.

Hezbollah has pledged its support to the Syrian government, as it labelled a blistering armed opposition offensive in Syria an aggression “sponsored by America and Israel”. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
