GAZA STRIP: Gaza’s Health Ministry has recorded 10 deaths “due to famine and malnutrition” over the past 24 hours, including two children, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 313, 119 of whom were children.
Israeli forces kill 51 Palestinians since dawn on Wednesday, including 12 waiting for aid.
Israel is using overwhelming force in its push to occupy Gaza City, with tanks and warplanes levelling entire blocks, according to Al Jazeera’s team on the ground.
Israel has killed at least 62,895 people and wounded 158,927 in its war on Gaza. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 were taken captive.
Israeli forces assault residents in Sebastia, northwest of Nablus
Israeli forces have assaulted an unspecified number of residents during their raid on the town of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
Village council head Mohammed Azem told the Wafa news agency that Israeli forces stormed the town more than 24 hours ago, turned some homes into military barracks and deployed snipers on the rooftops of others.
He added that Israeli forces have been raiding Palestinian homes since Tuesday evening, searching and destroying their contents.
The forces also assaulted some residents, one of whom was taken to hospital for treatment due to his critical condition, Azem said.
Israeli soldiers also raided some shops and stole money and goods from them, Azem said.
Dozens of people have been injured as a result of tear gas inhalation and assault by Israeli troops, and also rubber bullets that were fired in the vicinity.
There were also press crews injured as a result of covering this Israeli incursion into the old city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
Local officials say that some 2,000 Israeli troops went into the city, but it’s unclear exactly what they’re there to do.
They’ve carried out a number of arrests, and they are now forcing Palestinians out of their homes, going door to door, and sources on the ground say that these Palestinians were told not to come back until mid-next week.
The Israeli military has not released any statement on what they’re searching for.
These types of raids have been ongoing since Israel’s war on Gaza began.
Israel demands retraction of UN-backed report declaring famine in Gaza
Israel has called on the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Initiative (IPC) to retract a report that officially declared that famine was present in parts of Gaza.
“Israel demands that the IPC will retract immediately its fabricated report and publish a notice,” the director general of Israel’s foreign ministry, Eden Bar Tal, told a news conference.
Tal added that Israel would share “evidence” of misconduct in preparing the report with the IPC’s donors if the organization fails to retract “within a short time”, but did not provide any evidence to back up his statement during the news conference.
He went on to call the initiative a “politicized” institute that is “working for an evil terror organization”.
The comments are the latest from Israel, accusing or insinuating that criticism of its conduct in Gaza from other countries or international bodies aids Hamas or is anti-Semitic.
Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar has applauded the government’s move to set up more illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, saying he hopes they continue to multiply with US support across the territory. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
