Israel again bombs camps for displaced

21-04-2025

GAZA STRIP: Israeli forces continue to bomb camps for displaced people, a day after killing at least 54 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledges to intensify the war on Gaza after Hamas rejects an Israeli proposal for a temporary truce. The Palestinian group demands a deal to end the war in exchange for the release of remaining captives.

Meanwhile, Hamas says the fate of Israeli-American captive Edan Alexander is not known after its fighters recover the body of the guard holding him.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 51,201 Palestinians have been confirmed dead and 116,869 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since it began 18 months ago.

The Gaza Government Media Office updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to break its silence and undertake efforts to protect Jerusalem and its holy sites after Israel put restrictions on Christian worshippers and even attacked some of them.

“The occupation’s attacks and collective punishments during the holy Easter are manifestations of genocide, displacement, and annexation,” the ministry posted on social media.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry has now confirmed that one person has been killed in the Israeli drone strike in Kaoutariyet as-Siyad, the latest such raid despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. An “Israeli enemy strike on a vehicle in Kaoutariyet as-Siyad”, located inland between the southern cities of Sidon and Tyre, killed “one person and wounded another”, the ministry said in a statement.

Separately, the Lebanese army announced that it had foiled an attempt to launch rockets towards Israel.

In a statement, the army said it had arrested several individuals last week belonging to an unnamed group previously involved in rocket attacks on Israel.

It also reported discovering rockets and launchers in an apartment in the Sidon area of southern Lebanon and arrested suspects.

Wafa also reports that settlers attacked a bus with stones in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, causing its windows to shatter.

The Palestinian news agency, quoting local sources, also said settlers stole two water tanks used for livestock in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank on Saturday night.

Settlers are Israeli citizens who, according to international law, live illegally on private Palestinian land in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israeli settler and military violence has soared across the West Bank, particularly in the north of the territory, since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023.

The UN has said the violence has displaced roughly 40,000 Palestinians since Israel began a new military operation in the West Bank on January 21.

In its latest death toll update, the Gaza Ministry of Health says that in addition to the 44 deaths, there have been 145 injuries in the past day.

“There are still a number of victims under the rubble and on the streets and ambulance and Civil Defence crews cannot reach them,” it said.

“The death toll from the Israeli aggression has risen to 51,201 martyrs and 116,869 wounded since October 7, 2023,” it said, adding that since Israel resumed the war on March 18 after a six-week ceasefire, 1,827 people have been killed and 4,828 injured. (Int’l News Desk)
