Investigative Agencies Probe Second Blast In Delhi’s Prashant Vihar, Security Tightened

  1. New Delhi’28 Nov’2024: Following an explosion in Delhi’s Prashant Vihar, investigative agencies are working to uncover the motive behind the incident, amid suspicions that it may have been intended as a signal or warning.
  2. This marks the second blast in the Prashant Vihar area, with the first occurring in October near a CRPF school. Officials noted that the suspect appeared to time the explosion to minimize casualties, though one person sustained minor injuries and has since been discharged after treatment.Forensic teams have recovered a white powder from the site, which has been sent for analysis. “Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and National Security Guard (NSG) have collected samples from the blast site.
  3. The exact composition of the chemicals will be determined after analysis. Investigators will also check if the white powder matches the substance used in the previous blast,” sources said.
  4. Delhi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Additional Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, confirmed there is no suspect identified yet. “The cause of the explosion is being ascertained. Police teams, special cells, forensics, and other units are on-site,” Tyagi stated.
  5. The NSG has deployed its Bomb Disposal Unit at the location. More than 10 DVRs have been seized, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is under review. Investigators believe the suspect placed the explosives in a garbage area, though no significant particles aside from the white powder have been found. In light of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Apoorva Gupta, outlined enhanced security measures. “Staff was already deployed under GRAP-4. Additional personnel have been stationed in market areas and locations with heavy footfall. Through visual checks and bomb detection teams, we are sanitizing public spaces. Market associations and RWAs have been alerted, and security checks have been intensified,” Gupta said.Authorities are working to ensure public safety while piecing together the details behind the blast.
