NEW DELHI: An Indian soldier, belonging to the Border Security Force (BSF), opened fire on five of his colleagues killing five of them after he indiscriminately opened fire at them in Punjab’s Amritsar, officials told media.
Per the piece, the shooter identified as constable Satteppa SK was also shot dead during the incident. It was, however, unclear whether the shooter killed himself or was shot dead by others.
Another soldier, who sustained crucial injuries, has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The report further said that the incident took place at the campus of the 144th battalion in the Khasa area of Amritsar, which is situated at about 12-13 km short of the Attari-Wagah border crossing along the India-Pakistan international front.
The shooting took place at around 9:45am when constable Sateppa SK allegedly took out his service rifle and opened fire on five of his colleagues, an officer said, per the report.
The victims include personnel in the ranks of constable and head constable, the report said, adding that a court of inquiry has been ordered into the incident to find out what exactly had happened.
So far, the reason behind the incident is unknown, according to the officials.
