India to Celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21 as Shawwal Moon Not Sighted

Hyderabad, March 19: (PMI) The Shawwal moon was not sighted across India on Wednesday, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 21, 2026.

Reports from several major cities, including Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Kolkata, indicated that the crescent moon was not visible despite efforts by moon-sighting committees and local observers.

Following the non-sighting of the moon, religious authorities and central moon-sighting committees announced that the holy month of Ramadan will be 30 days this year. As a result, Muslims across the country will observe their final fast on March 20.

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, will therefore be celebrated across India on March 21 with traditional prayers, feasts, and community gatherings.

Meanwhile, some Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, are expected to celebrate Eid a day earlier, depending on local moon sighting confirmations.

Authorities have urged people to celebrate the festival with harmony, peace, and adherence to local guidelines (pressmediaofindia.com)
