IJU, PCJU Condem Delhi Police High Action Against Journalists

Hyderabad, Feb.3 (PMI): Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union (PCJU) condemned the highhanded behaviour of Delhi Police against Journalists and camerapersons from Punjab while they were engaged in discharging their duty of covering Delhi Vidhan Sabha Election campaign.

            In a statement released on Monday, IJU President K. Sreenivas Reddy and Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu, PCJU President Balbir Singh Jandu and Working President Jai Singh Chhibber described the action of Delhi police as an attack on media freedom and freedom of expression.

            The Delhi police, on Saturday illegally detained some journalists from Punjab for about 8 hours in Tughlaq Road police station. They refused to look at the identity cards of the detained journalists.

            The union leaders urged the Union Home Ministry, under whose jurisdiction Delhi Police work, to take appropriate action against the erring police officials. (PMI)
