Hyderabad:City Police on High Alert Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi and Milad-un-Nabi

Hyderabad’27 August (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI)Hyderabad: The city police have gone into high alert mode as two major religious events — Ganesh Chaturthi and Milad-un-Nabi — are set to be celebrated back-to-back in Hyderabad next week. With lakhs of devotees expected to take part in the festivities, the police have stepped up security measures across the tri-Commissionerate limits covering Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda.

Security Measures Intensified

According to officials, Milad-un-Nabi will be observed on September 5, followed by the Ganesh idol immersion processions (Ganesh Visarjan) on September 6. Given the scale and sensitivity of both occasions, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand has directed all police stations to remain on a tight vigil until the conclusion of the celebrations. Around 30,000 police personnel from different wings, including special forces, will be deployed to maintain law and order.

Meetings with Community Leaders

To ensure smooth coordination, the city police have held a series of meetings with Ganesh Utsav organisers, Milad Juloos committee members, and peace committees. The aim is to address possible flashpoints, avoid clashes, and foster cooperation between communities.

Commissioner Anand stressed that Hyderabad’s cultural ethos of “Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb” — symbolising communal harmony — must be upheld during the festivals. In line with this spirit, the Muslim community is likely to reschedule the Milad procession to avoid overlapping with the Ganesh immersion, officials said.

Focus on Preventing Communal Tension

Officials have categorically stated that troublemakers and mischief-mongers will be dealt with firmly. Police personnel will be deployed at sensitive areas, religious places, and major procession routes. In addition, surveillance has been intensified with the help of CCTV cameras, drones, and quick response teams to track movement and respond swiftly to untoward incidents.

The police are also maintaining a strict watch on social media platforms to prevent the spread of rumours, provocative posts, or hate speech that could trigger unrest.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

The police have appealed to citizens to extend full cooperation in maintaining peace and to follow the guidelines issued by the authorities. “Our priority is to ensure that both festivals are celebrated in a safe, smooth, and peaceful manner,” Commissioner Anand said.

With both festivals drawing massive crowds and processions converging at key junctions in the city, the Hyderabad police have prepared an elaborate security and traffic management plan, ensuring that Hyderabad’s festive spirit continues without disruption.(pressmediaofindia.com)
