Hyderabad’Oct 15 (Shoukat-PMI) In a major crackdown on distracted driving, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have booked 80,555 cases this year against individuals caught using mobile phones while driving.
As part of a special enforcement drive conducted on Monday and Tuesday, officers registered an additional 2,345 violations. The initiative aims to curb the growing trend of drivers using mobile phones on the road — a dangerous habit that continues to contribute to accidents across the city.
D. Joel Davis, IPS‘ Jt. Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Hyderabad, stated that mobile phone use while driving not only diverts the driver’s attention but also significantly reduces reaction time, increasing the risk of serious accidents.
“Using a mobile phone while driving puts not just the driver at risk, but also endangers the lives of other road users,” he said.
The traffic police confirmed that special drives will continue in the coming days to ensure stricter enforcement. Citizens are encouraged to report any traffic violations, including mobile phone use while driving, via WhatsApp at 9010203626 or 8712661690.(pressmediaofindia.com)
