Hyderabad Traffic Police Conduct ‘Arrive Alive’ Road Safety Awareness Programme

Hyderabad Jan 28 (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI) The Hyderabad Traffic Police, in association with Vasavi Engineering College, organised a large-scale road safety awareness programme titled “Arrive Alive” at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, Ibrahim Bagh, on Wednesday. The one-hour event, held from 3 pm to 4 pm, witnessed the participation of over 600 students and faculty members.

The programme was graced by Sri D. Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Sri B.K. Rahul Hegde, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dr S.V. Ramana, Principal, Vasavi College of Engineering, Sri Ch. Venugopal Reddy, Additional DCP (Traffic) and Sri P. Venkateshwar Rao, NSS Coordinator, along with senior traffic police officials.

Addressing the gathering, Jt. CP Joel Davis said the ‘Arrive Alive’ initiative was launched by the State Director General of Police with the objective of spreading road safety awareness to every household and educational institution. He revealed that nearly 8,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in Telangana last year, adding that 70 to 80 per cent of these fatalities are preventable by following basic safety norms.

He explained the concept of defensive driving, urging students to develop the skill of anticipating and avoiding accidents even when other road users make mistakes. He also highlighted the severe socio-economic impact of road accidents on families.

The Joint Commissioner elaborated on the Good Samaritan Act, assuring students that bystanders who assist accident victims are not required to share personal details or be forced to act as witnesses. He further stated that private hospitals have been directed to provide immediate medical care during the critical ‘Golden Hour’, and the government is considering reward mechanisms through the Transport Department to encourage lifesaving assistance.

Speaking on the occasion, DCP Traffic B.K. Rahul Hegde reminded students that roads are common public property and traffic rules are framed to ensure safety and equal access for all citizens. He urged students to act as road safety ambassadors and spread awareness among peers and the public.

The programme concluded with an interactive session and a renewed call for responsible road behaviour.(pressmediaofindia.com)
