Hyderabad Police Recover Over Rs 72 Lakh in Cybercrime Cases

Hyderabad Jan 9 (PMI) The Cybercrime unit of Hyderabad Police registered 144 cases in December 2025, successfully recovering Rs 72,36,067.
The zonal cyber cells filed 80 FIRs during the month, leading to the arrest of 15 individuals in 13 cases. In a special nationwide operation, the Hyderabad Cybercrime unit apprehended 43 people from 15 different states, who were linked to 34 cybercrime cases. These included 19 investment frauds, eight digital arrest cases, three social media frauds, and one case each of business fraud, hacking, and customer care fraud.
In total, the police refunded Rs 1,33,35,104 to victims. Investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were involved in 119 cyber fraud cases across India, with their bank accounts recording transactions worth Rs 73 crore.
State-Wise Case Breakdown
Telangana recorded the highest number of cases in December with 19, followed by Karnataka (15), Andhra Pradesh (14), Maharashtra (14), Rajasthan (12), Gujarat (7), Tamil Nadu (7), Delhi (6), Uttar Pradesh (5), Madhya Pradesh (3), West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, Odisha, Haryana, and Goa (2 each), and Punjab and Chhattisgarh (1 each).
Property Seized
Authorities seized 23 mobile phones, one laptop, nine cheque books, two bank passbooks, 16 debit cards, three rubber stamps, three QR codes, three PAN cards, and a deck of playing cards during the investigations.
Case Highlight: Woman Defrauded of Rs 1.95 Crore
In a major digital arrest case, a 75-year-old woman from Hyderabad lost Rs 1,95,76,000 after fraudsters posing as telecom officials claimed her husband was involved in illegal activities. The accused—Saiyad Soyab Jahid Bhai (26), Belim Anas Rahim Bhai (24), and Dinesbhai Keshubhai Babariya (32), all from Gujarat—were arrested under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.
