Hyderabad Police Inducts Women into Mounted Unit, Expands Dog Squad CP DGP C.V. Anand, IPS

Hyderabad, Sept 5′(Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI) The Hyderabad City Police has created history by inducting women into its mounted police unit for the first time. Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand, IPS, announced the development on Friday, describing it as a step towards greater representation of women in frontline policing.

Ten women constables from the Armed Reserve (AR), trained for two months at the Goshamahal Mounted Unit, will now serve as mounted police. They will be deployed for bandobust, VIP duties, and patrolling. “This initiative will encourage more women to take up challenging roles in policing,” Anand said.

At the same time, the police force is expanding its dog squad to reduce workload on the existing 34 dogs. The strength will be increased to 54 dogs, trained at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA) to specialize in narcotics detection, explosives search, and tracking criminals. A special committee has been set up to procure high-quality breeds from across the country. In the first phase, 12 dogs have already been acquired.

With the relocation of the Goshamahal stables due to the new Osmania General Hospital construction, the government has sanctioned a new 11.5-acre facility. This complex will include modern horse stables, a 60-dog kennel, parade ground, vehicle impound yard, and new offices for the City Security Wing. Tenders for the project will be finalized on September 8.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner reviewed arrangements for the Ganesh immersion, scheduled to begin tomorrow and last for nearly 40 hours. Around 50,000 idols are expected to be immersed at Tank Bund alone. Over 29,000 police personnel will be on duty, supported by 250 additional CCTV cameras and six drones.

Anand also reiterated the ban on DJs, citing health risks and fatalities reported in previous years. He clarified that the restriction is aimed at public safety, not religion, and that the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has extended its support. Special arrangements have been made to complete the Khairatabad Ganesh immersion between 6:00 AM and 1:30 PM.

Senior officers including DCP Rakshita Krishna Murthy (CAR Headquarters), DCP G. Chandramohan (South West Zone), DCP Dara Kavitha (Cyber Crimes), and DCP P. Giri Raju (CSW) were present at the announcement.(pressmediaofindia.com)
