Hyderabad, March 5 (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI) In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Hyderabad City Police organised a grand Dawat-e-Iftar on Thursday at the historic Chowmahalla Palace in Hyderabad.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Mohammad Azharuddin as Chief Guests. Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, and Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy Amit Garg, IPS, were also present. Several religious leaders, Peace Committee members, senior police officials, and other dignitaries attended the gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar appreciated the dedication with which the Muslim community observes prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. He said the month promotes brotherhood and unity in society and praised the city’s unique culture. He added that Hyderabad’s communal harmony serves as an example for other cities and reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to maintaining law and order to ensure peace for all citizens.
Minister Mohammad Azharuddin described Hyderabad as a melting pot of diverse cultures where people from different backgrounds live together in harmony. He stated that the state government remains committed to the welfare of minorities and strengthening law and order. He also commended the police department for their efforts in ensuring that prayers and religious activities during Ramadan are conducted peacefully.
DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy said that the annual Iftar hosted by the Hyderabad Police reflects the city’s rich culture and traditions. He noted that the police have earned the trust and cooperation of the people. Highlighting that love, brotherhood, and humanity are the true identity of Hyderabad, he said that as part of urban development, police division names are being updated to reflect the city’s historical heritage. He also conveyed his wishes for peace and prosperity during the month of Ramadan.
Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar remarked that Ramadan teaches values such as patience, discipline, and compassion for the needy. Describing Hyderabad as a centre of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, he praised the devotion and discipline observed by the Muslim community during the holy month. He emphasised that maintaining law and order is the foremost duty of the police and said the force is working around the clock to ensure the safety of every citizen. He added that such Iftar gatherings strengthen trust and cooperation between the police and the public.
At the outset, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Charminar, Kiran Khare Prabhaker, highlighted the importance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan and spoke about its benefits.
At the end, Additional Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, IPS, delivered the vote of thanks to the guests.v
