Hyderabad: Overall crime rate down by 6% in 2018, says CP Anjani kumar

Hyderabad, Dec.26 (Press Media Of India): The overall crime rate in Hyderabad in the year 2018 has gone down by 6 per cent. At his year-end media conference, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Anjani Kumar said property crimes this year went down by 20.5 per cent compared to the preceding year. At the same time, the recovery rate increased to 92 per cent.

The CP said the crime against women too went down, with dowry death cases dropping by 38 per cent, kidnapping cases by 12 per cent and outraging modesty by 7 per cent. On the traffic front, the overall accident rate decreased by 2 per cent and deaths reduced by one per cent. The CP congratulated all the members of City Police, who have made untiring and dedicated contribution by rising to the occasion at every moment.

He said despite severe challenges and continuous events, including Telangana State General Elections 2018, State formation day celebrations, Legislative Assembly Sessions, VVIP Visits of President and Vice President, apart from regular mammoth festive events like Vinayaka Chathurthi, Hanuman Jayathi, Sri Ram Navami, Sankranti, Holi, Dassera, Deepavali, Ramzan, Milad-Un- Nabi, Christmas and State festival Bathukamma, the Hyderabad City Police worked relentlessly and made these events incident free and maintained harmony which needs a great applause.

He said property crimes decreased by 20.5% and the property recovery in grave crimes attained 92%.The crime against women also declined recording 38% in dowry deaths, kidnapping by 12%, outrage of modesty by 7%. The response time to the complaints is considerably minimized through intensified patrolling and strategic police pickets. The travel time decreased as the speed of motor cars increased from 18kms to 25kms/hr and fatal accidents decreased by 2%. Detection of major and sensational cases like theft of an antique Tiffin Box of diamonds worth Rs. 50 Crores from Nizam’s Museum, female baby kidnap from maternity hospital, Koti, seizure of about 29 Crore rupees during general elections, increased conviction rate of 34%, life conviction of 31 persons in 25 cases, are only few achievements to quote. The successful strategies like initiation of PD Act against notorious and repeated offenders, constant surveillance through criminal tracking system, cordon search operations, community CCTV installations, integrated traffic management system and the able leadership of each wing, paid great dividends. I will be failing in my duty, if I do not acknowledge that the driving force behind our success is the vision and commitment of our Honourable Chief Minister Sri K. Chandra Shekhar Rao Garu, who has made Hyderabad the best buissiness destination in the country.

The Hyderabad City Police achieved international recognition and bagged Smart City Award and e-Governance Award during 2018 and became a model hub to the country with its police techno gadgetry and applications as part of smart policing. Different International dignitaries from Cambridge University, United Kingdom, US Consulate General and Srilanka visited Hyderabad City Police. The Commissioner of Police visited New York Police head quarters.

The Police Commissioner thanked the State government, elected public representatives, senior officers, print and electronic media, community based organizations, religious leaders for their support and cooperation in this endeavour.
