Hyderabad Hosts Traffic & Road Safety Summit 2025

Hyderabad, Sept 18, 2025.(Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI The Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), in collaboration with Hyderabad City Police, organized the Traffic & Road Safety Summit 2025 at Jal Vihar, Necklace Road. The two-day summit brought together policymakers, law enforcement officials, industry leaders, traffic experts, academics, and civil society to deliberate on urban mobility challenges and road safety solutions.

The event was inaugurated by Telangana Governor Sri Jishnu Dev Varma, who stressed that traffic management is not only about easing congestion but also about saving lives and improving the quality of life. He noted that a city’s growth and identity are reflected in its traffic systems, which must ensure inclusivity and balance between the Old City and New City.

Calling HCSC a model for public–government partnerships, the Governor urged citizens to go beyond awareness and adopt responsible road behavior. “Road safety means children return home safely, patients reach hospitals on time, and people commute without stress,” he said.

Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, DG & Commissioner of Police , and HCSC Chairman Hyderabad, welcomed participants, noting that this was HCSC’s first summit dedicated to traffic, following its earlier focus on narcotics and women’s safety. He observed that traffic is the most visible reflection of a city’s character, stating:
“Traffic is the city’s face. With over 92 lakh vehicles and 1,500 new additions daily, Hyderabad’s traffic management is central to its reputation as a safe and livable city.”
He described congestion as both a quality-of-life issue and an economic challenge, highlighting initiatives such as:
● Operation ROPE (Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments)
● Advanced signal management systems and VIP convoy coordination
● Drone and high-rise camera monitoring of traffic
● Collaboration with Google for AI-driven solutions
Deployment of 120 trained traffic marshals, funded by corporate partners like Apollo Hospitals

He also acknowledged the 30% pay incentive given to traffic police in recognition of their demanding work

HCSC Secretary General Sri C. Shekhar Reddy highlighted the importance of collective ownership of traffic safety, while Additional CP (L&O) Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, emphasized multi-stakeholder participation, including NGOs, industry, and research bodies.

Sri V. Rajashekhar Reddy, Joint Secretary, Traffic Forum, HCSC, flagged issues such as rapid vehicle growth, limited road capacity, and lack of integration in public transport. He advocated for transit-oriented development, AI-enabled traffic systems, structured parking reforms, and equitable infrastructure like footpaths and cycle tracks.

Closing the summit, Joint CP Traffic Sri D. Joel Davis, IPS, reaffirmed the city’s collective commitment, saying: “This summit is not an end but a beginning. The insights and commitments made here will guide our next steps toward building a safer, smarter, and more resilient Hyderabad.”

Also present at the summit were: All DCPs of Traffic, L&O, and other officers.

Key Highlights from the Governor’s Address:
● Emotional Connect of Road Safety: Road safety is about ensuring children return home safely, patients reach hospitals on time, and citizens commute without stress.

● Beyond Awareness – Towards Action: True awareness means, “I know, and I do” – citizens must follow the rules, not just know them.

● HCSC as a Model: Praised as a pioneering public–government partnership, the HCSC was highlighted as a model for other Indian cities.

● Inclusive Urban Growth: Safety measures must equally serve both the Old City and New City to ensure balanced and equitable development.
