Hyderabad Airport handles more than 11,000 oxygen concentrators

Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo (GHAC) has more than 11,000 oxygen concentrators and more than 100 tons Covid vaccines so far.

As of May 1, more than 11,500 units of oxygen concentrators were brought to Hyderabad from around the world and from other cities in India, GHAC said on Wednesday.

The shipments arrived on both flights as well as special charters, while countries, governments, airlines, airports, customs, freight forwarders, land handlers and all stakeholders came together to rush the much-needed equipment to India.

GHAC has put together a special task force consisting of customs authorities, airlines, freight forwarders and other stakeholders to ensure rapid clearance and handling of Covid lighting material consignments.

Recently, GHAC facilitated a large number of oxygen concentrators donated by a private organization to the government of Telangana. Telangana’s Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Industry and Trade and Information Technology, and General Secretary Somesh Kumar received them at the Cargo terminal.

GMR Since the Covid-19 an outbreak, GHAC is at the forefront in the fight against the pandemic. Efforts are constantly being made to effectively handle and distribute Covid lighting materials. It handled several trucks seamlessly carrying vaccines, medical equipment and Covid relief materials such as PPE sets, masks, disinfectants, etc.

In recent times, there has been a huge increase in the movement of oxygen concentrators to Hyderabad to meet the medical demands due to the pandemic.

Apart from oxygen concentrators, GHAC has successfully handled two loads of Sputnik V vaccines from Russia. 1.5 lakh doses on May 1, which was the country’s first Sputnik V consignment, and 60,000 doses on May 16, requiring specialized handling and procedures to maintain temperature integrity (-20 degrees C).

Hyderabad is the largest concentration of Covid-19 vaccine production capacities worldwide, with an estimated 3.6 billion doses of different vaccines expected to be produced by facilities in the region over the next 18-24 months.

From January 2021, GHAC has more than 100 tons Covid vaccines distributed from Hyderabad to different parts of the country.
Get ready for the expected increase in movement of Covid vaccines and emergency supplies in Hyderabad, GHAC has expanded its land and air facilities and streamlined processes to meet the unique requirements for vaccines and time-controlled pharmaceutical products.

The existing Pharma zone plant is being expanded to almost double the area and capacity of all temperature zones, viz. 15-25 degrees, 2-8 degrees and -20 degrees Celsius, are increased. It also introduces a ‘Cold Super Store’ as part of the expanded pharmacy zone to mitigate any temperature outages while unloading pharmaceuticals
