Hormuz Strait will never return to US-Israel: Iran

08-04-2026

TEHRAN: Donald Trump has set a Tuesday deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face “hell”, saying the US will hit Iranian power plants and bridges.

Iran says it will respond “in kind” to any attacks on its infrastructure, with senior officials condemning the US president’s remarks as “incitement to war crimes”.

An Iranian missile has hit a residential building in Israel’s Haifa, wounding four people and leaving four others missing, according to Israeli media.

Iranian attacks across the Gulf continue, with power, water desalination and oil plants hit in Kuwait and an oil facility targeted in Bahrain.

Explosions seen in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah after drone attacks

Footage, verified by Al Jazeera, shows fire and smoke in the skies over the city of Sulaymaniyah in Iraq’s Kurdish region following a drone strike.

The attack came moments after another drone attack caused damage to a separate building in the city.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility and the target of the strikes were not immediately clear.

Iraq has been drawn into the US-Israeli war on Iran, with US forces and Tehran-aligned armed groups in the country trading attacks in an escalating cycle of violence.

Iran says dozens of universities, research centres damaged by US-Israeli attacks

Dozens of universities, schools and research facilities have been damaged by US-Israeli air attacks, an Iranian government spokesperson said.

Iran’s English-language news channel Press TV quoted Fatemeh Mohajerani as saying that overall, more than 100,000 civilian sites have been affected nationwide since the war began on February 28.

“The enemy cannot tolerate Iran’s achievements,” Press TV quoted Mohajerani as saying.

Democrat says Trump’s latest Iran threat ‘psychotic’, warns of possible war crimes

A Democratic member of the US House of Representatives has warned that the US military conduct in Iran is making people in the US “less safe”, while describing Trump’s latest expletive-laden rhetoric as “psychotic”.

In a statement, Jim McGovern, the highest ranking Democrat in the House Rules Committee, wrote, “When the US degrades international humanitarian law, we invite others to do the same. That makes us all less safe.”

He pointed out that international experts on human rights law “are sounding the alarm” of the US conduct in the war “including serious violations” of the Geneva Conventions and international law and possible “war crimes”.

In a separate post, McGovern also described Trump’s recent threats as “totally unhinged and extremely dangerous”.

“This is psychotic. The President of the United States needs to get help.”

Search under way for 4 missing after Iranian attack on Haifa

The latest attack on Israel happened on the evening of Sunday, and the rescue workers have been working throughout the night, and are still searching through the rubble for survivors.

The strike happened in the port city of Haifa in the north of Israel. It is a very important strategic hub for transport and an industrial centre, and is also where the oil refining for Israel takes place.

Because of that, it has become a target that has been repeatedly struck by Iranian missiles since the start of this conflict.

It is also within range of Hezbollah rockets, given its proximity to the north, close to the border with Lebanon. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
