Heavy Rain Slows Durga Idol Immersion in Hyderabad, Rituals Conclude Peacefully

Hyderabad, October 5(Vijaya Laxmi-PMI) The immersion of Goddess Durga idols in Hyderabad, marking the end of the Navaratri festivities, was delayed on Sunday morning as heavy rains lashed the city. Despite the downpour, the process concluded peacefully by evening.

The continuous rainfall hampered the movement of immersion processions, resulting in a buildup of vehicles carrying idols toward Hussain Sagar. Around 100 trucks and DCM vans lined up from Necklace Road to the Secretariat and Telugu Thalli flyover by mid-morning, compared to only 30 vehicles earlier in the day.

Traffic congestion was reported from NTR Gardens to Liberty Circle as processions moved at a snail’s pace through waterlogged stretches. Traffic police were stationed at key junctions to manage the situation and ensure smooth passage for both commuters and devotees.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had designated Necklace Road at Hussain Sagar Lake as the main immersion point. Heavy-duty cranes were deployed to lift and immerse the idols safely, while police personnel maintained strict security at the site to prevent any untoward incidents.

Devotees participated enthusiastically despite the rain, joining the processions with music, chants, and traditional dances. Although the wet weather slowed down the proceedings and extended waiting times for pandal organisers, the immersions were completed successfully by late afternoon without disruptions.
