BEIRUT/ GAZA CITY: Hamas’s political chief reviews new truce proposal saying “priority is to stop the brutal aggression against Gaza and complete withdrawal of occupation forces”.
Israeli commandos disguised as medical staff and civilians gun down three men in Jenin’s Ibn Sina Hospital in the occupied West Bank, alleging they planned to carry out “terrorist” attacks.
A large number of Palestinian civilians have been killed in Israeli attacks on residential homes in the Sabra and Tuffah neighborhoods of Gaza City, Wafa news agency reports.
At least 26,751 people have been killed and 65,636 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas attacks stands at 1,139.
Hamas political bureau member Mohammad Nazzal the Paris proposal will be discussed with its leadership inside and outside the Palestinian territories and then with mediators from Qatar and Egypt in Cairo.
“We told the mediators a permanent ceasefire is our goal, but we can do it in the second or third stage of an agreement. Without an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, we can’t accept this new proposal,” Nazzal told media.
“We are looking to release all captives from both sides, but of course it needs a negotiation to reach this point. A permanent ceasefire is useful for both sides, otherwise the war between us and the Israeli troops will continue. We are ready to achieve this in stages.”
Israeli reservists and families of captives held in Gaza have now reportedly made it to a second border crossing to block humanitarian aid going to Palestinians in Gaza.
Some members of the Tzav 9 group of reservists who have organized the demonstrations and as we reported earlier had arrived at Karem Abu Salem crossing have now reached the Nitzana crossing near the Egyptian border, according to multiple Israeli media reports.
Trucks carrying the limited amount of supplies allowed to enter Gaza from Egypt have, since late October, had to loop south from Rafah to be inspected at the crossing.
It is unclear if they have managed to effectively block any humanitarian convoys heading into the Gaza Strip, but Israeli forces had tried to stop them in previous days amid rising international pressure on Tel Aviv.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) released an audio recording of when 15-year-old Layan Hamadeh called to ask for help from a car in Gaza City.
In the recording, Layan says: “They are shooting at us … the tank is next to me.”
Shots ring out as the teenager screams, then nothing is heard from her. “Layan was killed and 6-year-old Hind remained trapped inside the car surrounded by the occupation tanks and soldiers,” PRCS said in a post on X. (Int’l News Desk)
