Gorkha leaders, spearheading violent agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland, has turned down an offer of conditional talks by Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee. Yesterday Ms Banerjee had offered to hold talks with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, GJM, if they refrain from violence. Meanwhile, the hill district of Darjeeling continues to be tense, with reports of fresh violence. The GJM activists set on fire two police posts, as central forces alongwith state police are patrolling the violence-hit areas. Four policemen were injured in attacks by agitators. GJM alleged, three activists also died in police firing, but the state government has denied it.
