Hyderabad, As a part of transforming Hyderabad into a world class city and towards effective implementation of solid waste management, the GHMC has taken certain various initiatives to keep the city clean and green.
One of the initiatives, which include distribution of two dust bins to each household, procured 2,000 Auto tippers for collection of garbage from Household and to transfer the garbage to the transfer point and placed the services of Community Resource Persons (CRP) as Swachh Dooths to monitor the process of solid waste management.
At present, 153 CRPs have been positioned in 26 circles of GHMC covering around 76,197 house holds and mobilizing towards effective implementation of solid waste management in GHMC. The GHMC has proposed to inculcate and to sustain the habit of segregation of garbage through Information & Education Campaign activities and intensive Community participation. Source segregation of recyclables and biodegradables (organic waste) will provide an efficient way for resource recovery, but reduce the pressure and pollution at landfill sites and towards healthy environment.
The CRPs facilitated the Households for segregation of the garbage in two categories, handing over the garbage and payment of Rs 50 per month either to Rickshaw puller or Auto tipper and ensure for sustaining the habit in due course. The SHG/SLF/TLF members have inculcated the habit of putting solid waste management/Swachh Bharath as one of the agenda s in their monthly meetings and actively/voluntarily involving in Swachh Hyderabad as responsible citizens of the city.
