Hyderabad : The GHMC has replaced around one lakh LED lights in just one-and-a-half month out of 4.55 lakh streetlights under its limits.
The GHMC is the only Municipal Corporation in the Country which could come up with an innovative idea of lighting in very short span when compared to that of New Delhi Municipal corporation. As per the target fixed by Municipal Administration Minister K T Ramarao, the existing 4.55 lakh streetlights have to be replaced with LED bulbs by end of this year and the GHMC has taken up this project on war-footing to make streets more bright in the nights.
The project is in coordination with Energy Efficiency Services Limited, which is affiliated to Government of India. The GHMC was not releasing any separate fund to LED lights paying money from the savings every year without any extra burden on GHMC. With this, one lakh new LED streetlights 2.32 M.U power is being saved every day each unit is costing around Rs. 7 totaling to Rs. 1.65 crore are being saved for all the 4.6 lakhs LED streetlights.
