New Delhi, Sept 20(PMI) To curb irregularities and unauthorized agents in reservation ticket booking, Indian Railways has announced a major step. The same rule that currently applies to Tatkal tickets will now be extended to general reservation tickets as well. This new regulation will come into effect from October 1.
According to Railways, for the first 15 minutes after the reservation window opens, only those passengers whose Aadhaar verification has been completed in advance will be allowed to book tickets. This rule will be applicable both on the IRCTC website and its mobile app.
In an official statement, it was said that the aim of this step is to ensure that the benefits of the reservation system reach genuine users and to prevent misuse by unauthorized and dishonest agents.
The statement further clarified that the existing restriction preventing unauthorized ticket agents from booking tickets during the first 10 minutes of opening day reservations will continue. However, booking timings and processes through PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters will remain unaffected.
Railway officials added that this move will make online booking more transparent and help reduce fraudulent reservations significantly.(pressmediaofindia.com)
