KARAMSAD (GUJARAT), Nov 26 (PMI NEWS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that Constitution Day serves as a reminder that freedom is not only about enjoying rights but also about fulfilling duties and upholding unity.
His message was read out during the flag-off ceremony of the ‘Unity March’ in Karamsad, located in Gujarat’s Anand district and known as the birthplace of India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Gujarat government has organised a padyatra from Karamsad to the Statue of Unity in Narmada district to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. District Collector Pravin Chaudhary read out the Prime Minister’s message during the event.
The PM praised the state government for organising the march, noting that padyatras played a crucial role in India’s freedom movement.
“The sound of footsteps united society, boosted self-confidence, and ignited the spirit of unity in millions. Sardar Patel believed that when people walk together, differences fade and the collective mission takes precedence,” Modi said.
Calling it a meaningful coincidence that the march began on Constitution Day, Modi said the occasion reinforces the idea that freedom involves responsibilities and a commitment to unity.
He added that national unity is reflected in the enthusiastic participation of citizens in initiatives like Digital India, Fit India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and people-driven campaigns such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 will be achieved through the strength of its youth, nationwide solidarity, and innovation.
“The Unity March will further strengthen national unity and motivate people to align their personal goals with the nation’s progress,” Modi said, while paying tribute to Sardar Patel.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel formally flagged off the march, attended by several dignitaries, including Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The padyatra will conclude at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar on December 5, with nearly 15,000 participants expected to join each day, according to an official release. (pressmediaofindia.com)
