The police have arrested five people for attacking special public prosecutor Manohar Kandalkar, who represented filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar in a murder conspiracy case, in which accused Preeti Jain was convicted. The mastermind is still at large and his motive is not known yet. The mastermind had allegedly paid them Rs 20,000 to attack Kandalkar. On July 11, when Kandalkar was on his way to the sessions court, a paver block was hurled at his car by two men on a bike. He escaped unhurt, while the men fled.He filed a complaint at Bhoiwada police station. The police examined CCTV footage from the spot, based on which the accused were arrested this week.
Speaking to mid-day, Khandalkar said that an attempt was made to attack him again. “On June 30, when I was in my car at Shivaji Park, a man knocked on the window and asked for my name. Before I could respond, he placed his hand around my shoulder. He tried to snatch my chain, but couldn’t. And, hence, I ignored the incident.
