Hyderabad’Non 15 (Shoukat-PMI) City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has issued a public alert stating that cybercriminals have created fake Facebook accounts using his name and identity. These fraudsters have reportedly been sending deceptive messages to his friends and acquaintances, claiming that he is in distress and urgently needs money.
According to CP Sajjanar, one of his friends, believing the fraudulent message to be genuine, transferred ₹20,000 to the scammer’s bank account and was subsequently cheated. The Commissioner strongly appealed to the public not to believe or respond to any messages seeking money, even if they appear to come from known individuals or officials.
Sajjanar clarified that his official personal Facebook page is available at the link shared in his tweet, and all other accounts using his name are fake. He added that the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Team, in coordination with Meta, is working to identify and remove these fake profiles.
He further advised people to exercise caution while using social media. Any suspicious links, messages, friend requests, or video calls should be immediately blocked and reported. He also urged users to cross-verify by calling the concerned person directly if they receive any unexpected request for money.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of reporting cyber fraud quickly to the national helpline 1930 or via the official portal cybercrime.gov.in.
“Only if we stay alert and cautious can we protect ourselves and our hard-earned money from cybercriminals,” he said in his statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). (pressmediaofindia.com)
