Dozens more martyred in Israeli air attacks across Gaza

20-12-2023

GAZA CITY/ JABALIA: Dozens more Palestinians have been reportedly martyred and many others injured in an Israeli air raid on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Three residential buildings have been bombed in Rafah, with at least 39 killed and many more feared trapped under rubble.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has announced the formation of a coalition to patrol the Red Sea in response to Houthi attacks on commercial shipping.

The Israeli military has said two more soldiers have been killed in Gaza.

At least 19,453 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7. The death toll from Hamas’s attack on Israel stands at nearly 1,140.

Israel’s army will conduct the probe once it receives additional details on the staffer’s identity from French officials, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reports.

This weekend the French foreign ministry condemned the death of the embassy staffer, who had sought shelter in a colleague’s home that was hit by Israeli shelling, and asked Israel to clarify the incident as soon as possible.

“We have asked for a complete spotlight on the circumstances that could explain the targeting of this house, following the explosion that resulted in the death of this staffer,” said French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Sunday.

The Health Ministry in Gaza says it is “surprised” at what it called the “silence” of the international community amid the continuing attacks by Israeli forces in the north.

Spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said “massacres” in the area were taking place in the absence of health services due to the “destruction of hospitals” by the Israeli army.

“It means the (Israeli) occupation insists on the genocide of the population,” he added.

We can confirm that 600 Israeli airport staff are now on unpaid leave as air traffic to Israel drops amid the Gaza war.

The Israel Airports Authority confirmed the move to media following an earlier report by Israeli financial newspaper Globes.

An additional 1,000 airport staff have been called up to the army reserves, while 2,000 more have seen their hours reduced by 25 percent due to the drop in business, the Globes reported.

We’re bringing you more information on the Red Sea security incident reported earlier this morning.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), four small boats each carrying four to five people approached a vessel travelling some 80 nautical miles off the coast of Djibouti.

The closest small boat “paralleled the ship’s course” about a half a mile away from it before breaking off, the UKMTO said in an advisory note posted on X, dubbing the manoeuvre “suspicious”. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
