Hyd, July 29 (PMI): Senior Congress leader and former minister in united Andhra Pradesh M Mukesh Goud passed away here on Monday afternoon. He was 60. He had been suffering from cancer and was unwell for some time. As his condition turned critical, his family members admitted him to Apollo hospital on Sunday night where he breathed his last this afternoon. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
Born on July 1, 1959, Mukesh Goud was elected thrice to the United AP Assembly. He entered Assembly for the first time in 1989 and retained his seat in 2004 from Maharajganj constituency in Hyderabad. In 2009, he won the election from Goshamahal Assembly constituency. He was appointed as minister twice. He worked as Minister for BC Welfare in 2007 and for Minister for Marketing in 2009 in united Andhra Pradesh government. He was in the Congress for 30 years.
After his graduation in Bachelor of Arts from Osmania University, Mukhesh Goud started his political career by joining Congress-affiliated NSUI and later played an active role in the Youth Congress. He contested in municipal elections and won as corporator from Jambagh in 1986.
Later in 1989 and 2004, he successfully contested Assembly elections from Maharajgunj on Congress ticket and from Goshamahal in 2009. He worked as BC Welfare Minister in the YS Rajashekhar Reddy cabinet in 2007 and as Minister for Marketing in Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet in 2009. However, in 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections, Mukhesh Goud was defeated at the hands of Raja Singh of the BJP in Goshamahal.(PMI)
