Door-to-door campaign to get ready for municipal elections: TPCC chief

Hyderabad, July 30 (PMI): TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy today said they would continue door-to-door campaign in the State capital for another week to prepare cadre to get ready for upcoming municipal elections.
In an informal talk with mediapersons, the TPCC chief took potshots at the proposed Municipal Act. He said it was atrocious to transfer powers of public representatives to the District Collectors in the proposed Act. He also said they would challenge the bad law in the court. Uttam said the proposed Municipal Act has clearly revealed dictatorial tendencies of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Referring to the comments of the Chief Minister on Harithaharam program, Uttam wondered whether the Chief Minister or his cabinet colleagues were ready to resign from their posts for the failure of the Harithaharam program. On the support of TRS MPs to the BJP on the amendment of the RTI Act, the TPCC chief said it was a classic example of close friendship between the two parties. He also alleged that there was a fake fight between the TRS and the BJP in the State. Asserting that the Congress alone was an alternative to the TRS in the State, Uttam dismissed the BJP as an urban party. He made it clear that the communal politics of the BJP would not work in the State.
Former minister and MLA Sridhar Babu alleged that the State government had diluted the spirit of the  74th amendment to the Constitution. He demanded that the State government to conduct municipal elections only after making proper amendments in the Act. He also said there was no clarity over the BC reservations in the Act. (PMI)
