Hyderabad, April 18 (PMI): Director General of Police Anjani Kumar today said since the purchase of Yasangi rice has started in the State, strict measures should be taken to prevent illegal entry of grain from the bordering States into the State.
A video conference was held with Police Commissioners, SPs, Vigilance Officers, Civil Supply Officers and Excise Officers to prevent smuggling of paddy from bordering States as procurement of Yasangi paddy has begun. Civil Supplies Commissioner Anil Kumar, Excise Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, Law & Order Additional DG Sanjay Kumar Jain, IGs Chandra Shekhar Reddy, Shah Nawaz Kasim and others participated in the video conference.
Speaking on this occasion, DGP Anjani Kumar said Telangana is the only State in the country, which was buying Yasangi paddy at the maximum support price. In this background, there is a possibility of illegal arrival of rice grain to the State from the border States, he said. Telangana has 17 districts sharing their border with Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh, for which special check posts have been established in 50 areas. He said six districts are bordering with Maharashtra, four with Karnataka, five with Andhra Pradesh and two districts with Chhattisgarh State.
The DGP stated that Additional Collectors, SPs, Revenue and Civil Supply Officers should make a joint plan to set up check posts in these 17 border districts immediately. The collection of paddy grain in the State has increased significantly and currently 161 lakh metric tons of grain is being collected, he said. However, due to the lack of capacity to mill the collected paddy, some millers have requested the police officials to conduct constant checks on the grain stocks in the mills as there is a possibility of diverting them to other illegal routes. In this regard, they want to focus on the millers on cases registered in the past.
Additional DG Sanjay Kumar Jain said check posts should be set up immediately at the borders to stop the transportation of grain from other States and the details of the respective check post officials should be sent. At present, there are seven vigilance departments in the State. The vigilance officials have stated that inspections should be carried out intensively. He warned that if non-duty paid liquor comes from other States, it will have an impact on our State exchequer.
Civil Supplies Commissioner Anil Kumar said there is a possibility of illegal arrival of grains not only through check posts, but also from other routes as well. Therefore, there is a need to prevent illegal arrival of grains. He said some millers buy Re 1 PDS rice at nine rupees and sell the same at Rs 35.
Director of Prohibition & Excise Sarfaraz Ahmed said there is a possibility of illegal transportation of country liquor from Maharashtra to Telangana and said the Excise and police departments should work together to prevent this. He said the shipment of duty-free liquor should be prevented. He also said medium and premier liquors are mostly being illegally brought to Telangana from Goa and Karnataka and this should be stopped. Mainly, transport and other vehicles should be checked extensively, he said. Sarfaraz Ahmed informed that the SPs and Excise officers in the districts should jointly meet and formulate an action plan. Gudumba cases are being reported in Mahbubabad, Bhupalapalli, Nagar Kurnool, Suryapet and Kothagudem districts. (PMI)
