Delhi Red Fort Blast Case: Court Sends Three Doctors and Preacher to 12-Day Judicial Custody; NIA Probes Wider ‘White-Collar’ Terror Network

New Delhi-Dec 12 (PMI) In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the November 10 Red Fort blast, a Delhi court on Friday remanded three medical professionals and a religious preacher—all arrested for their alleged involvement in the terror conspiracy—to 12 days of judicial custody.

The accused, identified as Dr Muzammil Ganai, Dr Adeel Rather, Dr Shaheena Saeed, and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay, were produced before the court following the expiry of their four-day National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody granted earlier on December 8. The hearing was conducted under tight security arrangements inside the Patiala House Court complex. Journalists and media personnel were barred from entering the courtroom, reflecting the sensitive and high-risk nature of the case.

Voice Sample of Eighth Accused Verified

Along with the four accused, Dr Bilal Naseer Malla, who was arrested on December 9, was also produced before Principal and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna. The court required his presence for the purpose of authenticating his voice sample, a crucial step in verifying intercepted communications believed to be linked to the planning and execution of the blast.

Dr Malla, a resident of Baramulla district in Jammu & Kashmir, is the eighth individual arrested so far in connection with the case. NIA has described him as a key conspirator, playing a significant role in shielding the main accused and tampering with evidence.

NIA: Accused Provided Shelter and Destroyed Evidence

In a statement issued earlier, the NIA alleged that Dr Malla knowingly sheltered the deceased accused, Umar Un Nabi, after the blast plot intensified. According to the agency, he provided “logistical support” and actively attempted to destroy evidence that could reveal the extent of the terror network’s involvement.

Umar Un Nabi, who died in the explosion, was reportedly behind the wheel of the explosive-laden Hyundai i20 that detonated outside the iconic Red Fort on November 10. The blast resulted in the deaths of 15 people and left multiple others critically injured, sending shockwaves across the national capital and prompting a nationwide intelligence alert.

Focus on ‘White-Collar’ Terror Module

The arrests are tied to what investigators describe as a sophisticated, white-collar terror module, originally exposed by the Jammu & Kashmir Police. According to earlier reports, the group—comprising educated professionals, including several doctors—had been searching for a suicide bomber for nearly a year.

Preliminary findings suggest that the module operated with unusual precision and secrecy. Its members allegedly used encrypted communication channels, medical infrastructure, and professional networks to coordinate movements, conceal evidence, and evade government surveillance.

Investigators believe that Umar Un Nabi played a central role as the chief planner and final executor of the suicide attack.

Ongoing Nationwide Searches

NIA officials stated that the agency is actively pursuing several leads emerging from digital forensics, phone records, and interrogation reports. Search operations are being conducted in multiple states, including Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, and other metros, in coordination with respective state police forces.

The agency has indicated that the conspiracy involves a wider network of individuals, and efforts are underway to track additional suspects believed to have provided financial, logistical, and ideological support.

The Red Fort blast, one of the deadliest attacks in the capital in recent years, has triggered heightened security measures across sensitive locations, with agencies working to dismantle the remnants of the clandestine terror module.(pressmediaofindia.com)
