Crime rate against women sees 5 per cent jump in 2024
241 women murdered this year in various cases while 2,945 women were raped and 1,122 kidnapped
Hyderabad, Dec.29 (Shoukat-PMI): Compared to 2023, the crime rate in Telangana has increased significantly in 2024 and a total of 2, 34,158 cases have been reported this year, which is an increase of 9.87 percent.
Telangana DGP Dr Jithender IPS on Sunday released the Annual Crime Rate Report 2024 for the year 2024, highlighting various aspects such as crime rate, law and order, cyber crime and drug smuggling in Telangana.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that the law and order situation had improved further. “Law and order is under control in all areas except one or two. This year, the Telangana police have arrested 85 Naxals and 41 naxalites surrendered before the police Also, strict action was continued to be taken against drugs. A total of 1,942 drug cases have been registered across the state and 4,682 people have been arrested. Drugs worth Rs 142.95 crore were seized by the police,” he said.
The DGP noted that in cyber crimes too, Telangana has seen a 43.33 per cent increase this year. “As many as 25,184 cyber crime cases have been registered. In these crimes, money looted by the cyber criminals has been refunded to the tune of Rs 180 crore. The police have frozen assets worth Rs 247 crore,” he said .
Jithender said the implementation of the new laws began in 2024 and a total of 85,190 cases had been registered under these new laws while revealing that with the implementation of the “Zero FIR” system, 1,313 cases were registered through the judicial process.
The DGP said that 547 SI’s and 12,338 constables had been appointed by them this year . He also said the people responded faithfully to the Dial 100 service and made 16, 92,173 calls.
Responding to several issues, including police suicides in the State, he said the financial difficulties, personal issues and family issues were the main reasons for the suicides of the police personnel.
“Suicides have also taken place in some cases due to work pressures. Now, efforts are being made to resolve the issues through conducting family counselling for those police personnel, who are prone to commit suicides,” he disclosed.
The DGP said that despite the increase in crime rate in Telangana this year, the actions of the authorities on law and order, cybercrime and drugs had been remarkable. He said the police, committed to the safety of the people, had made the judicial system more efficient through new laws.(PMI)
