New Delhi, The Central Secretariat of Communist Party of India has condemned the Election Commission’s recommendation to disqualify 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for holding ‘office of profit’.
In a statement here today, CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy condemned the unilateral move of the Election Commission to recommend disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs for holding ‘office of profit’. The Commission did not bother to hear the AAP leaders on the issue, he deplored. It also said the same criteria of disqualifying the MLAs, who held parliamentary secretary positions in States has not been followed. The decision to disqualify was taken in a hurry on the day of retirement of the Chief Election Commissioner, who was also seen earlier as pro-BJP government at the Centre.
The CPI stated it appears that the Commission and in particular the Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti acted in a manner which makes one conclude that the recommendation was a political one taken to please the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
