Hyderabad, May 16(Shoukat-PMI): C.V. Anand, IPS, Director General & Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, has been awarded the prestigious “Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award” at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025, organized by the Dubai Police from May 13 to May 16, 2025. Representing the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Anand received the top honour in recognition of his department’s sustained efforts in combating drug trafficking and consumption in Hyderabad.
The award ceremony took place at the Dubai Police Officers Club, where Anand received the accolade from the esteemed World Police Summit Committee. The award highlights H-NEW’s proactive enforcement strategies, comprehensive awareness programs for students and the general public, and its significant impact in curbing narcotic crimes over the past three years.
Addressing the gathering, Anand noted that police officials from 138 countries participated in the summit, and expressed immense pride in Hyderabad City Police’s achievement. He remarked that winning the award amid global competition reflects the efficiency, dedication, and innovative practices of H-NEW in drug enforcement. “This recognition is not just an honour for Telangana Police, but a proud moment for the entire Indian police force. It stands as a testament to our team’s relentless efforts, modern methods, and people-centric approach to eradicating the drug menace,” said Anand.
Twelve officers and innovators from law enforcement agencies across 12 countries were recognized with top honours in various categories during the summit. Earlier, in a panel discussion at the summit, Anand addressed the growing challenges of narcotics in India, particularly post-COVID. He elaborated on the new routes and methods used by drug syndicates, successful crackdowns on peddlers and gangs, initiatives such as anti-drug committees in educational institutions, awareness drives, and rehabilitation efforts being undertaken under his leadership.
