Nizamabad’Oct 20 (PMI) Shaik Riyaz, the prime accused in the murder of a police constable, was shot dead by police on Monday while attempting to escape from the Government General Hospital (GGH), Nizamabad. The incident created panic among patients and staff, leading to the deployment of additional police personnel at the hospital.
According to reports, 24-year-old Riyaz had been arrested on Sunday from the Sarangapur forest area with the help of a local citizen, Asif. Both were injured during the scuffle and shifted to the hospital for treatment.
On Monday, while receiving treatment on the fourth floor of the hospital, Riyaz allegedly snatched a firearm from an Armed Reserve constable and attempted to fire in an effort to flee, injuring the constable in the process. Police retaliated and opened fire, killing Riyaz on the spot.
Following the incident, security at the hospital was tightened.
It may be recalled that Shaik Riyaz had stabbed CCS Constable E. Pramod to death on Friday night at Vinayak Nagar while being taken to the police station in connection with a bike theft case.
Earlier on Sunday, rumors circulated on social media that Riyaz had been killed in an encounter in the Sarangapur forest area. However, Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya dismissed the reports, clarifying that Riyaz had been caught alive and admitted to GGH for treatment. (pressmediaofindia.com)
