Congress has highest number of candidates have criminal record

Hyderabad, Nov.21 (PMI)Forum for Good Governance president M. Padmanabha Reddy today said Assembly elections are going to be held on November 30 in Telangana. Main parties in the fray are TRS, INC, BJP, MIM and so on. Apart from it, there are other parties and independents contesting the elections.

Speaking to media persons here today, he said Forum for Good Governance has taken up an analysis of candidates having criminal cases. For this purpose, the affidavits filed by them are taken as basis and analyzed by a committee and a report is prepared.

“In our analysis, some candidates are having cases registered during Telangana agitation and some have criminal cases and a few others have cases of both the type. Some small cases doesn’t need any cognizance, however since the candidates have shown the cases in their affidavits, we are forced to take the cases into account”.

He said some cases are pending since the last 15 to 20 years. For 119 Assembly seats, there are 360 candidates of above said parties in the fray. Out of 360 candidates 226 candidates have cases against them. God forbid, if all the candidates having criminal cases are elected our Assembly will be full of people with criminal background. Political parties gave tickets to winnable candidates, irrespective of their criminal record. This is not good for the democracy. In this connection, Supreme Court of India gave directions that political parties should not give tickets to people with criminal record, in case under unavoidable circumstances ticket is given to person with criminal record the party should explain the circumstances under which the ticket is given. The Court further stated that the parties should publish in paper about the criminal record of the candidates to whom they have given tickets, he added.

Party wise percentage of candidates having cases are: 48% candidates (58) of BRS have criminal record; 70% candidates of BJP (78) have criminal record; 71% candidates (84) have criminal record and 50% candidates (six out of 12) of MIM have criminal record. (PMI)
