Hyderabad, Demanding the state government to respond on the assurances made during elections to Girijans before February 15, Congress leader and former MP Ravindra Naik asked the government to recognise thandas as panchayats, allocating Rs.5 crore fund for their development.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Ravindra Naik demanded the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has allocated a mere Rs.1 crore for the Banjara Hill tribals, to erect the statue of Sevalal Maharaj, who visited Hyderabad during the erstwhile Nizam regime, at Banjara Hills in the city. He reminded that the then Nizam supplied food grains to tribals living in Banjara Hills on horses. He said that the Chief Minister assured tribal people saying that he will provide 10 percent reservations to them and transform thandas as panchayats, but failed to fulfill his assurances. KCR had prepared the election manifesto by sleeping in thandas and the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi did justice to the state by responding to KCR’s manifesto, he said.
He said that the Chief Minister has to take up developmental works at Sammakka-Saralamma temple area located at Medaram without disturbing tribal culture. He suggested to the state government to construct bathing ghats without harming forest assets including trees. He expressed concern that the tribal culture may be affected if permanent arrangements were made at Medaram.
