The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI today conducted searches at 12 locations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in connection with illegal sand mining.
Sources in CBI told AIR News that the searches were spread across multiple districts including Jalaun, Hamirpur, Lucknow, Kanpur and also in the national capital.
Besides, the residences of senior officers, including IAS officer B Chandrakala were also raided. The Agency had registered a case in the matter on Wednesday.
The agency had taken up the case on the instructions of Allahabad High Court.
Our correspondent reports that B Chandrakala was posted as District Majistrate in Hamirpur district during Samajwadi Party regime. She has been charged with allotting mining lease to SP leaders without going for auction as per the norms.
